Welcome to Malta's First Marine Adventure Park

Malta Marine Adventure Park - The Park

The Idea behind the Marine Adventure Park which is being run on an experimental and on a trial run bases is to create an enriched habitat with a variety of Pelagic Fish species that are not protected by law, that are harmless to humans and which can co-exist together in an enclosed environment. The size of the fish held are not small but are at least one meter long as otherwise they could pass through the net mesh.

The Marine Adventure Park has set up two enclosures which will take the form of floating Sea Aquariums situated out at sea, in areas where a permit already exists to carry out aquaculture activities. Instead of keeping the fish for human consumption, people can come to see these animals not from behind a glass, but instead swim within the netted enclosures, share the same space with these fantastic creatures and literally come face to face with fish that otherwise would be very difficult to encounter out in the wild.

The Marine Adventure Park is operating two 50 meter diameter netted enclosures having an average net depth of 14 meters. The size and the depth of these enclosures is suitable for visitors to come and snorkel or scuba dive with these magnificent animals.

The Species held as exhibits in the enclosures have been purchased at a premium rate from professional fishermen, who instead of sending his catch to the fish market, these fishermen have kept some of the fish alive in open circuit oxygen enriched water tanks on his fishing boat and has agreed to deliver these fish to Marine Adventure Park  enclosures for one sole purpose: To become star attractions and be appreciated in their living form by many people.

At the end of summer all the fish held in our enclosures will be tagged, some even with satellite tags and released back to the open sea for scientific research and towards the better management of the wild fish stocks especially the wild tuna population.

Feeding will be under strict control. Hand feeding the animals is possible but not always. As the fish net has a large mesh size small fish can easily enter or exit the enclosures. The small fish can and most probably will become prey to the larger fish.
